Scholarship
My research springs from my passion for my Indo and Indonesian community--our histories, our flavors, our experiences. I am interested in how we collaborate with each other and with other ethnic groups to build resilient communities through shared pleasure.

I’m fascinated with the awkward stand-up comedy set. The feel of a home-made dance costume. The smell of terasi frying with sambal paste. The moment when your auntie asks, ‘have you eaten yet?’

I’ve shared my scholarship across several venues, including publications  (Situations, Imagining; a Gibney Journal, Performance Research,  Hyperallergic) as well as academic conferences (ASTR, ATHE, AAA.)

Dramaturgy

I specialize in new work development. I am particularly passionate about avant-garde dance and theater projects that are wrestling with issues of specificity and authenticity. And I love designing and building audience experiences.

Together, we might ask; what about this piece feeds you right now? Who is your audience, and how can we activate them? And how is the structure of this project related to your values?

I’ve collaborated on projects that have been shown at the Shed, Victory Gardens, Fusebox Festival, and Salvage Vanguard  Theater among others.

Arts Practice
My artistic practice is fueled by my passion for my community, my research into pleasure/rasa/time, and my fascination with dramaturgical structure.

I work with food, digital media, installation, and durational performance.

My work has been featured at W139, Centerspace Project and the Cohen New Works Festival, among others.

I am a company dancer with Gamelan Sekar Jaya, where I have studied under master artists like Tjokorda Istri Putri Rukmini, I Made Suteja, and Ni Nyoman Srayamurtikanti.

Teaching

I am a passionate, experienced educator. At the University of Texas, I’ve had the privilege to work with students across a wide breadth of contexts; I’ve led large Introduction to Theater lectures and 20-student sections based on writing and research methods in both online and traditional classrooms.

I am particularly skilled at helping my students develop their persuasive writing skills. Using my background in dramaturgy and debate, I help students refine their arguments, carefully select evidence, and creatively structure their rhetoric.

I am passionate about creating moments of intercultural exchange in my classroom. How do we articulate our unique perspectives? How can we respect and honor someone else’s experiences, even when we might disagree with their conclusions?
